Groningen is one of the smallest provinces of the Netherlands, but it has a surprising variety of landscapes. Such as the National Park Lauwersmeer, which can be considered one of the most beautiful areas in the Netherlands. Or the Hortus Haren and the fortress Bourtagne.
This province is very attractive to those who like to relax or who like some action. The mudflat hiking to the Frisian Islands and the Pieterpad, of which the starting point is located in Pieterburen, are well known. Pieterburen itself is mainly known for the seal crèche of Lenie 't Hart.
The bustling heart of this province is the city Groningen. With its countless cafes and restaurants, this is a great place to go out. Culturally speaking, the city Groningen is also the heart of this province with a large number of museums, theatres, cinemas and festivals.
Outside of the city Groningen, there’s a lot to see from past centuries with typical Groningen locks, farms and mills. There are also interesting museums with collections around peat-diggers, vehicles and art. |
